What a Rape Victim looks like:
What Caroline acts like:
Your welcome, xoxo
Are you seriously implying a rape victim who finds it in herself to finally trust a man again and starts having sex again is somehow no longer a victim? Because that is fucked up on so many levels. Firstly, you have no right to judge how anyone should be sexually or otherwise after any kind of traumatic event. Secondly, generalising by using selective imagery really adds nothing to your argument since I could post tens of pictures of Caroline losing her shit while Damon was controlling, torturing, manipulating, raping and treating Caroline like absolute shit/a toy he could feed on. Thirdly, by posting a picture of Damon being all cute and asking “could this baby face ever rape someone?” has no validity because that cute baby face snaps like that and snaps someone’s neck…that and he’s a psychopath. Rapists can be charming people too, it doesn’t mean shit about their morals or what they’re capable of (look up what the characteristics of a psychopath is, it might shed some light…research actually does that you know). And as an answer to your question, fuck yes he would rape someone, as seen by the proof in front of you! Fourthly, simply because Julie and the rest of her writers would like to skip over what Damon did to Caroline in order to paint him as some hero does not mean the audience has, nor should they. Because he has never apologised, he has never showed any remorse and it has never been addressed. He treated her like she was nothing and abused her (I’m not even talking about the time he killed her as she was bound to fail as a vampire-even though he’s allowe killing whoever, whenever) and the fact that it’s been swept under the rug and that there are apologists like you is the reason we have rape culture and we have CNN focusing on the “poor rapists” as opposed to victims.
I really hope what I just read was not excusing Damon for his actions because they were horrific. Not only to Caroline but to Andie too. By using compulsion, you take away their ability to consent. Damon Salvatore treats women like shit, bordering on pathologically abusive, except the times when he is actually abusive. Go and rewatch that clip when Caroline tries to escape but he throws her back on that bed. Is that consent? Was anythng after him turning into a vampire consent? No. Because if Damon had not compelled her, she would have run like hell and would never have slept with him again, but because he did, he just had the ability to keep doing what he did to her.
The fact that you act as if Caroline suffered no abuse, sexual or otherwise, is terrifying to me. What would be even worse to me, is if you are actually a woman. Not because men are less inclined to hate rape, but more for the fact that you would slut shame a victim simply because the guy is cute. If you think that Damon’s actions were not morally in the black, then you need a huge wake up call, or a therapist…or even religion. No, I don’t like engaging about these kind of issues with regards to a teen tv show, but damn, your post actually made me feel sick as a human being and as a woman and I had to address such a disgusting, apologistic post.
I suggest that if you want to ever want to make an argument again, you make use of tools such as logic, fact and validity in your premises and conclusions. Because I honestly think I lost brain cells reading this post, as well as some hope for humanity.
I really hope that no matter your love for a character, you never blatantly disregard the darkness of the actions they take and I hope the ideals you just displayed are not the ones you take with you into the real world.
Sincerely, a person that always liked Damon, found him incredibly interesting but still managed to acknowledge how fucked up his actions were.
Like if anyone is familiar with Buffy the Vampire Slayer in the spin-off Angel gets shoved into a steel box by his son (long story) and gets thrown into the ocean where he disintegrates but since he’s a vampire he doesn’t die he just starves and starts to hallucinate.
WAY TO BE ORIGINAL JULIE PLEC
I was thinking the exact same thing. It is nearly exactly the same. But Julie enjoys stealing stuff from Joss so we shouldn’t be surprised.
This season has been particularly difficult for me to watch and stomach. More so than any previous one. I feel as if I’m watching season 6 of Buffy all over again. This has nothing to do with shipping preference. This has everything to do with Elena Gilbert.
I love Elena. I have loved her from the beginning and will continue to love her until the end. Elena, a girl who is compassionate, strong, selfless and brave ended up with a life she never deserved. There are times it is easy to forget that she is only an 18 year old girl and how much she’s lost. But this season has been so heartbreaking because she had no control over any of it and she’s getting all the hate for it.
All Elena had left to live for was her humanity, her free will, and her brother. She lost all three of those things. Her choice was torn from her and she was effectively under the control of a man who took advantage of that and selfishly refused to relinquish that hold. Due to this control, she started hurting the people she loved. She then lost her brother, lost her humanity and then starting hurting everyone.
And here’s the deeply horrifying thing: people are hating her for it. Calling her a bitch and weak for turning her humanity off. Firstly, Elena Gilbert is anything but weak, secondly, she didn’t turn her own humanity off, Damon used his control over her and forced it off because it was the easy way out. It was all out of her control. The very same people who were cheering and defending Damon for turning her humanity off are the ones being the most hateful towards her for her actions.
Yeah, she was a bitch, but her humanity was turned off, what’s Damon’s excuse? Oh wait, right, I know, he just wants to be loved! Let me vomit for a bit. They hate her for doing things Damon does every day with his humanity on and now, with her humanity coming back, all of what she’s done without it comes back with it. Everything she’s done and has lost all came rushing back in and watching her lose it broke my heart because she is the victim in this. She never had a choice in any of this and she bears the brunt of the consequences of everyone’s (Damon’s) actions. The real Elena would never have done what she did this season but the real Elena was ripped away with things outwith her control. When she realised just how much it must have been horrifying to her.
Elena was altogether nearly destroyed this season and that was difficult to watch because for once she couldn’t just get back up again the way she’s forced herself to in the past. There’s just too much. This girl lost everything but I know at the end of this she’ll come out fighting and that’s why I love her; because she is that strong person who won’t give up. But what truly has made this season so unbearable is the fact that through watching all of what was done to her Damon gets praised as if he is a selfless hero but even worse, she’s expected to owe him some apology or some admission of love. She’s hurt Stefan so much but I don’t expect her to give him anything either because she needs to heal. If she decides she wants to be with whoever, then that’s fine. However, she doesn’t owe these men anything (even though I do believe she will feel incredibly remorseful over Stefan) in terms of being with any one of them so if she chooses herself, I’ll be on board with that.
I want my warrior princess back; and no, that is not contingent on her being with a man or not. It’s on her finding herself again and surviving a life she never deserved.
Thank you for the response :) The main problem, as you say, is the denial people have over the implications of the sire bond and the extent of the effect it had on Elena. If they did, it would severly compromise Delena so they choose to ignore it. The sire bond came in and supernaturally intensified her feelings for Damon and completely blocked her feelings for Stefan. Furthermore, because the sire bond makes her believe that everything is Damon and that her life should revolve around making him happy doesn’t make it a natural progression and effectively removes all of her agency. She has no choice because she is forced to do what it contingent on Damon’s happiness and command-nothing is her own anymore. The real Elena, the Elena who had free will made a choice, it was just forcefully taken from her. The fact that people are ignoring this and not seeing just how disgusting that is really concerns me and even worse, are hating her for things that have never been her choice is sad. The last choice we saw Elena make was the re-affirmation of her love for Stefan while she was dying, and when she was resolved to live as a vampire. Nothing else has been her fault and her decision and for a woman who values her free will so much and because I love her character, this has been a tough season for me to watch.
People are hating on Elena and keep saying she has to choose, choose a brother and stick to it etc etc
Elena Gilbert made her choice. She chose Stefan. She has always chosen Stefan. She’s stuck to that choice time and time again until it was forecfully taken away from her. Just because half the fandom decides to disregard that choice due to their shipping preference does not mean it didn’t happen and doesn’t make it her fault. In fact, it makes it theirs for expecting her to do something and when she does, invalidate it because they don’t like it.
She made a choice. Some fucked up shit just got in the way and nearly destroyed her. She doesn’t owe anyone, especially “poor me” Damon Salvatore, the reason for nearly all of it, any more than what she’s already given considering he’s never respected that choice once.
Vampire Diaries 4x21 Extended Promo
Let me tell you the problem I have with this promo…
Damon: “I’m not stopping until I get her back.”
Guess what Damon, this isn’t about you. This is about getting Elena back for herself. But once again, it’s all about Damon because he just wants to be loved…poor, poor selfish, sociopathic asshole.
While Elena had already lost herself, had changed for the worst, was unrecognizable Damon had no problem with her. He liked “her either way.” He took her to NY to have fun, to drink off people, to kill them, knowing full well that this was not the real Elena, the person Elena wanted to be. I mean, it was blatantly obvious if he actually knew Elena at all instead of attempting to turn her into Katherine. And even if he was oblivious, I mean, let’s face it, Damon doesn’t know or understand the real Elena at all, it was pointed out to him so many times. But he didn’t care. He didn’t care about Elena disappearing in all this because she wanted him. She “loved” him. The only reason he now wants her back, that he now sees a problem with her as she is, is that she’s now being a bitch to him and his poor, soft heart can’t take it.
“After sharing a dance in the April 18 prom episode, Stefan will continue to ask himself for the rest of the season whether, if Elena were to want to come back to him, he’d say yes. “That’s not to say that it’s Who will she choose? all over again,” Plec says. “But there is the question of, where does her heart really lie? What is the truth? And what direction is the next phase of this love triangle going to go in?” [x]
I don’t know what Plec’s on about but it seems like the same story all over again. Only difference in season 4? She’s phrased it differently.
So tired of this crap. The love triangle can be the premise of the show, but a love triangle doesn’t have to be the be all and end all of the show. Look at season 1 and 2. The seasons where it was okay for the love triangle to be put on the back burner for a bit because there was all this other interesting crap to focus on. You know, the days where Kevin Williamson was not letting fan service or fangirling or being up Damon’s metaphorical ass get in the way of writing.
I mean, someone explain to me on how season 4’s “where does her heart truly lie?” is any different from season 3’s “who will she choose?”
No seriously, tell me the difference because all I can see is Plec pulling out a Thesaurus.
And now all we need is a new love triangle to form with Caroline, Elena and Stefan (of which another post will be dedicated to). Because that is totally what this show needs right now; more triangles.
